A state series card from the United States.

Leslie sent this card from the USA. It reached me after 18 days in transit on the 28th of January, 2019. She’s from Wisconsin and has sent me a ‘greetings’ card of her state. She likes reading and says we have some things in common after reading my profile on the post crossing website.

The description on the back of the card reads:

"Photos from left to right – The Wisconsin State Capitol building, Swiss dairy cows, an autumn farm harvest, coastal wetland waters of Lake Michigan, sailing on Lake Mendota and running the American Birkebeiner."

The American Birkebeiner is the largest cross-country ski race in North America, and one of the longest.

I work as a Teaching assistant with special education students in a high school. I enjoy reading. I am also new to Post crossing. We have some things in common! My state’s Capitol building is a replica of the national capitol building in Washington DC (not exact replica – close).

She affixed a beautiful stamp featuring a photo of a Poinsettia. Taken from above, the photo captures the beauty of the green leaves, the red bracts, and the yellow flowers in the center of the plant.

We tend to think of the beautifully coloured “petals” as the flowers, but in fact, those are the modified leaves called bracts. The Poinsettia’s flower is the cluster of small, yellow, cup-shaped structures in the centre of the leaves.
