From a town in Czech Republic.

Today’s card was sent by Monika from Czechia (a.k.a. Czech Republic). She sent a multi-view postcard of Černošice. Later in this post, we’ll be visiting Černošice virtually.

Cernosice

Černošice is a town in the Central Bohemian region in Czechia. It is located 5 kilometres southwest of Prague, the capital of Czechia. Černošice literally means ‘town of black people’.

The postcard itself looks a bit old to me. So, I figured the places could’ve also changed. I chose to visit those places virtually. I entered “Černošice” on Google Maps and hunted for these places on street view. It’s an astonishing feature with which one can explore a place virtually.

The picture on the top left of the postcard shows an aerial view of Černošice. On the top right, we can see a building which looks like this now –

Notice the change? I can’t even guess how old this postcard is. The building has been renovated and is now a Confectionery and Café owned by Hajek & Hajkova.

On the bottom left, we can see a church. More specifically, Church of the assumption of the Virgin Mary, which is one of the two churches in Černošice. Although churches don’t change much, here is how it looks like now --

Like I said, it hasn’t changed much. Has it?

The last picture on the bottom right shows a random street in Černošice. It shows Hotel Kazin and a board which reads “Řeznictví a uzenářství” and translates to “Butchers and Charcuterie”. Charcuterie is the branch of cooking devoted to prepared meat products, primarily from pork.

This placed has changed too and looks like this now –

There is a lot of change. Hotel Kazin isn’t there anymore, or even the board. It has been replaced by a Veterinary clinic.

The back of the postcard has a small paragraph printed in Czech, which translates to “Famous recreational centres in the lower reaches of the Berounka river near Prague”.

Monika greets me and says she lives in Černošice. She tells me that she likes to embroider and make ceramics. Here’s what she wrote –

“Hello,

Greetings from Czech republic. I live a small town of Černošice. My name is Monika. I like to embroider and make ceramics. Hope you will like this card. Best regards, Monika.”

She stuck 2 beautiful stamps, one of 21 Koruna and another of 20 Koruna which roughly equals to about 130 INR. This is really expensive when compared to the postage rates in India, where 15 INR is sufficient to send a postcard to another country.

The 21 Koruna stamp commemorates the World Post Day, which is celebrated on 9th of October every year. The 20 Koruna stamp portrays Antonín Holý, a pioneering Czech scientist. He specialised in the field of chemistry. He was involved in the creation of the most effective drug in the treatment of AIDS.
